PeaceAble Pelvis is the first mobile pelvic health practice in Northern Michigan. We help our clients overcome chronic pelvic health conditions, such as incontinence or pelvic pain. Our goal is to empower our clients to listen to the wisdom of their own bodies- rather than resorting to invasive surgeries or prescription drugs- to facilitate healing and improve quality of life.

Beyond Kegels.

The point isn’t to merely treat your symptoms, the point is to get you back to the life you love. We take a whole-person approach, understanding that YOU know your body better than anyone else does. Targeting just one area of the body won’t necessarily resolve the issue, because everything we do- from sitting, sleeping, eating and even breathing- can affect the function of the pelvic floor.

Pelvic floor therapy is NOT all about Kegels. Most of the activities that involve our pelvic floor- birth, elimination and sexual pleasure- happen behind closed doors, so we don’t usually get the opportunity to talk about the best way to do them. Let us teach you the proper way to take control over your pelvic floor and help you understand what exactly is going on “down there”.

Why Occupational Therapy?

Most people associate pelvic floor therapy with physical therapists. Neither physical therapists nor occupational therapists receive comprehensive training in pelvic floor therapies during graduate school and instead pursue this specialized education independently. While pelvic floor therapy is in the scope of practice for both PTs and OTs, an OT will take a holistic, biopsychosocial approach whereas a PT traditionally employs an anatomical approach to care.

As an OT, my focus is on the most basic bodily functions that people often take for granted until they lose control over them. The fact is, everything from how you sit, sleep, and eat–and even how you breathe–affects the function of your pelvic floor. Treatment reaches beyond your symptoms, investigating how they affect your day to day functioning in order to get you back to the life you love.
